Changing your GP at Matamata Medical Centre

The relationship with your GP is a very personal one and as a patient, you need to feel confident and able to relate well with your Doctor. Often a patient may become dissatisfied with their GP and wish to change to another GP.

The first step is to discuss this with your GP if possible or the Practice Manager if a specific issue is involved.
However, if you still wish to change to another Doctor then you are able to do so by contacting our team who will arrange this. Please be aware though that some GP’s have closed books and are not taking any new patients so there are limits on who you wish to transfer to. Our reception team can help you with this by advising who is taking new patients at the time of your enquiry.

Complaints Process

Our Clinical Services Manager or Operations & Finance Manager are the first point of contact for any person who has a complaint.

They will record the details of the complaint, make contact with the person and arranges a meeting. Then collects relevant data pertaining to the complaint, which includes informing any Doctor or staff member of the complaint if they are involved.

A response, usually written, is then formulated and sent to the complainant and options for resolution of the complaint.

Resources for the Health and Disability Consumer Trust and the Health Consumer trust are provided by the practice and this is explained to the complainant if they wish to take their complaint further.

If you would like support to make a complaint this is available through the HDC or HCT or any Matamata Medical Centre staff member.
